Project Overview
Motz provided the 100% natural, Safeshell infill for two multi-sports playing fields at Regis University. Regis University is the first University in Colorado to use Safeshell, which makes Regis University’s turf fields one of a kind.
Safeshell is a 100% natural, hypoallergenic infill made from walnut shells and with an inherent cooling technology to keep artificial turf cool even on hot dry days. The Situation
Regis University was looking to update its multi-purpose field. They were looking for turf infill that would protect the turf field surface and playability. The safety and performance of Regis University’s multi-purpose sports fields were important in the decision-making process.
Safeshell provided a natural, safe, and low-maintenance infill that would keep this multi-purpose field functioning for years to come. A unique feature of this multi-purpose field was a artificial turf landscape was installed between the two fields to serve as a distinction between the fields and the playing surface. Safeshell was used for this distinctive line of landscape artificial turf.
The Play
This project consisted of two multi-sports playing fields at Regis University.
Site construction started with an excavation of the subbase to prepare for the drainage system. Once the base course was built, a Schmit Pro-Play shock pad was installed and the dual fiber sports turf, by Academy Sports Green Fields, was laid on top.
These two turf fields were joined together. To separate these two multi-sports turf fields, artificial turf landscape was installed between the two fields to serve as a distinction between the play surfaces.
Motz, natural high-performance, low maintenance infill, Safeshell was poured over the turf to keep the turf in place. Safeshell is a 100% natural, hypoallergenic infill made from walnut shells and with an inherent cooling technology to keep artificial turf cool even on hot dry days.
Lastly, the Regis University logo and sporting lines were incorporated into the field.
We've been happy with the Safeshell organic infill. It helps dissipate heat compared to rubber and the grooming of the field has been better than expected in terms of the infill staying in place, even when snow plowing. It also doesn't track into players shoes as often. We would recommend it.
