Roger Bacon High School
Project Overview
The Motz Group has partnered with Roger Bacon High School for over ten years, delivering a synthetic turf stadium field and a smaller practice surface. In 2008, Motz installed the school’s first synthetic turf field at Bron Bacevich Stadium. Throughout its life, the Motz team provided maintenance and repair services, as well as GMAX testing. The field exceeded performance expectations year after year, but in the late summer of 2016 a severe storm dropped 4.4 inches of rain across the area in just a few hours. Classified as a “100 year event,” it caused widespread flash flooding. As a result, Roger Bacon’s stadium was completely submerged under water, compromising the synthetic turf field and leaving the school with a difficult decision.
The Situation
Due to the age of the existing field and the severity of the damage, Roger Bacon decided to replace the synthetic turf surface, with the ambitious goal of salvaging their fall sports season. With the decision made and the tight schedule ahead, Motz sprang into action, working hand-in-hand with the school to ensure they would not only be given the opportunity to host their fall sports season, but receive an end-product that would further elevate their athletic program. Desiring high-performance durability and multi-sport versatility, Roger Bacon re-selected The Motz Group’s Twenty-Four/Seven Synthetic Turf System for their replacement.
The Play
Roger Bacon’s goal of salvaging the fall sports season was achieved. The Motz Group brought in additional team members to expedite the installation and wrapped the project in 20 days, approximately two weeks shorter than a typical synthetic turf replacement. The Motz Group performs an annual deep clean service and GMAX test to help keep Bron Bacevich Stadium’s field game ready. The field has been put to the test for several seasons since the 2016 replacement and it continues to perform at its peak.

The Win
- UPDATED FIELD
With the original field entering its ninth season of play when the flooding occurred, and the damage left to the turf, Roger Bacon was able to opt for a complete field replacement with updated design and system.

From the water receding to the field ready for play, Motz completed removal and replacement in less than a month.
- FALL SPORTS SEASON
Having the field replaced in 20 days after the flood, Roger Bacon was able to continue with their fall sports season.
