What Happens If My Kid or Dog Eats Turf Infill?

Let’s face it, your family wants to install synthetic turf to spend more time outside! Synthetic turf should provide a safe and fun environment for your family, both furry and unfurry. That is why we at Motz make safety a top concern for all our products.

Envirofill and Safeshell have been crafted to be one of the safest infill solutions for your artificial turf paradise! Unlike many other infill products, our products were created uniquely for artificial turf. All our manufacturing processes and raw materials have been carefully chosen to support our customer’s priority of safety. Envirofill and Safeshell have been declared non-toxic, nonhazardous making it safe for any synthetic turf installation.

We have gone great lengths to affirm our safety standards through numerous testing and certifications. Our heavy metal testing illustrates our determined effort to deliver a strong safety standard for the synthetic turf industry. We have conducted this testing to ensure our customer’s safety and enjoyment with their artificial turf installation. The following ASTM testing, American Society for Testing and Materials, is an international standard relating to the maximum level of hazardous metal in children’s toys.

ASTM F3188-16, Standard Specification for Extractable Hazardous Metals in Synthetic Turf Infill Materials

This specification relates to the amount of certain metals that have the potential to be extracted from synthetic turf infill materials if ingested. The time, temperature, and pH of the extraction fluid approximate the conditions the infill material would experience in the stomach during the digestive process. The levels of extractable metals are compared to maximum levels allowed in children’s toys.

We know there is a lot to take in on these with results, but the important aspect to understand, is Envirofill and Safeshell’s passing results on all standardized metals. It is significant to note that both of our infill products not only passed but passed by very wide margins. Now we are not telling you to put one of our infill products in your next bowl of oatmeal, we don’t think it would taste very good, but you can be assured that if any member of your family accidently ingested one of these products they will not suffer any serious health problems.
