Our Journey
In 1977, Joe Motz was armed with a passion for horticulture and an unstoppable entrepreneurial spirit. He started a company that has now grown to be one of the most recognized and highly-respected providers of innovative turf solutions in the country. With over 45 years of service dedicated to the industry, our goal continues to be ensuring a long-lasting relationship with our customers and partners.
1977
Owner Joe Motz began building the legacy
Motz Environmental Maintenance established as a landscape maintenance and grounds care business.
1979
Establishment of Motz Lawn Care
Motz increases its scope to include professional lawn care services, adding the Motz Lawn Care division.
1982
Establishment of Motz Inc.
With the company’s offerings growing and the number of team members expanding, the decision is made to formally incorporate, forming Motz Environmental Maintenance, Inc.
1989
High-performance sports fields become focus
Motz further leverages its expertise in sports fields with the addition of the Motz Sports Turf division.
1996
Motz athletic surface used for the Olympic Games XXVI
A Motz field is selected for Olympic Games held in Atlanta, Georgia.
1999
Selected turf specialist for Superbowl XXXIII
Motz field selected for host site of the Superbowl XXXIII held in Miami, Florida.
2000
Motz athletic surface used for the Olympic Games XXVII
A Motz field is selected for the Olympic Games held in Sydney, Australia.
2001
Selected turf specialist for Superbowl XXXV
Motz field selected for host site of the Superbowl XXXV held in Tampa, Florida.
2002
Installed 1st of 750+ synthetic turf fields
With two decades in the turf industry, Motz expands expertise into the synthetic turf market.
2009
Added Envirofill to the lineup
With the continued focus on providing innovative turf solutions to the industry, Motz introduces Envirofill to the market as a high-performance infill option for synthetic turf applications.
2010
Maintenance division established
Identifying a need for continued and annual maintenance on the synthetic turf fields going in the ground, Motz establishes a maintenance division, previously known as SMP, to serve as a solution for customers.
2016
Safeshell launched
Looking to produce another environmentally-friendly and organic infill choice for artificial turf landscape and sports applications, Motz launches Safeshell to the turf market.
2017
Installed 1st AirPAT system for Atlanta Braves
Motz installs the first high-performance natural grass rootzone management system, AirPAT, at the Atlanta Braves’ new stadium.
2018
Motz became an employee-owned company
Motz proudly becomes 100% employee-owned through an ESOP formation.
2018
Named to Forbes’ Small Giants list
Motz was named to Forbes’ 2018 Small Giants list for valuing greatness over growth.

Introduced InPlay Synthetic Turf Mini Pitches
Motz began offering mini pitch synthetic turf systems that provide a high-quality, fully-equipped playing field option for small areas or where space is limited.
2021
Added Track Cleaning & Repair Service
Seeing track cleaning and maintenance as a continued need for facility owners, Motz teams up with Sport Aide to expand their maintenance offerings.

Motz became a Certified Evergreen Company

Installed 1st GAME ON Synthetic Turf Field
Motz installed the first field featuring Shaw Sports Turf's GAME ON technology, which offers enhanced design capabilities and reduced seams for synthetic turf fields.
2021
Launched Zero Waste Sustainability Solution
Motz committed to developing more sustainable and responsible ways to build or replace synthetic turf fields.
2022
The Motz Group & USGreentech Became Motz
The Motz Group and USGreentech announced a brand refresh, including a new visual identity, redesigned logo, and updated website under the banner Motz.
2023
Moved In to New Campus
Motz raised the bar of employee experience and community involvement with the construction of a new company headquarters in Newtown, Ohio.
2024
EXPANDS TO SOUTHEAST
Motz opened a new office in Charlotte, North Carolina to provide synthetic turf field expertise to athletic facilities across the region.

Launches Motz Moves
Motz Moves was established as the philanthropic arm of Motz, dedicated to creating lasting community impact through charitable giving, volunteer efforts, and service initiatives.

Our long-term commitment continues to be serving the industry through constant innovation, continued growth, and proven expertise. Motz has certifications or credentials from, or is a proud affiliate of the following industry organizations:
The ASBA is a nonprofit trade association comprised of builders, designers and suppliers for sports facilities that exists to promote the highest standards of design, construction and maintenance. Their Certified Field Builder Program was created to help improve the practice of field construction. Motz has four full-time ASBA Certified Field Builders on staff.
The SFMA advances professionalism in sports field management and safety through education, awareness programs and industry development. Motz has been involved with the SFMA for many years, and has been asked to present at various annual conferences on behalf of our natural and hybrid turf field innovations.
STC is a 501(c)6 nonprofit trade association dedicated to serving as a resource for trustworthy information on the manufacturing, selection, delivery and use of today’s synthetic turf systems. Motz believes strongly in the mission of STC, with multiple team leaders serving on the Council’s board.
