American Sports Builders Association Names FC Cincinnati TQL Stadium Featuring AirPAT by Motz as Field of the Year

The American Sports Builders Association (ASBA) announced FC Cincinnati TQL Stadium as the Single Field Facility of the Year. The Motz Group was recognized for construction excellence for their build of FCC’s home stadium field. They installed a hybrid turf system and natural grass maintenance tools (AirPAT) for the largest soccer-specific facility in Major League Soccer (MLS).

The ASBA is the national organization for builders and suppliers of materials for tennis courts, running tracks, fields, courts and recreational facilities annually recognize tennis, running tracks, and indoor facilities. ASBA acknowledged Motz for its innovative AirPAT system and ability to work with its partners and team to design and install a field for FC Cincinnati’s new home field. The state-of-the-art technology at Motz demonstrated its team’s innovative approach to field construction and project management through this project.

TQL is the first venue in Major League Soccer (MLS) to leverage the combination of The Motz Group’s game-changing turfgrass technology of AirPAT and Eclipse. Motz was part of the design, engineering, and installation of FCC’s new stadium field with a natural grass pitch located in a downtown urban environment in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Motz AirPAT system was installed throughout the entire field, which is a warming rootzone management solution that uses a unique vacuum ventilation system to allow grounds managers the ability to control the temperature and moisture throughout the year for the grass to grow consistently. Motz AirPAT technology is designed for total customization. These customizations included vacuum drainage, forced air aeration, water conservation and water recycling, rootzone warming, continuous rootzone monitoring, and automated and remote system operation.

The playing surface was Eclipse, a championship-quality hybrid system of natural ryegrass and synthetic turf elements. The entire construction project took 14 weeks.

FCC’s award-winning stadium field was featured in both the U.S. Men’s and Women’s National Teams and also showcased in the USMNT’s FIFA World Cup Qualification match vs. Mexico teams in the first year. In 2022, the World Football Summit named the FC Cincinnati Stadium the Best Venue of the Year.
