The Motz Group’s Parent Company Wins Top Workplaces in Cincinnati for 3rd Consecutive Year

The Motz Corporation, parent company of The Motz Group and USGreentech, has been awarded a Top Workplaces 2021 honor by The Cincinnati Enquirer. The list is based solely on employee feedback gathered through a third-party survey administered by employee engagement technology partner Energage, LLC. The anonymous survey uniquely measures drivers of engaged cultures that are critical to the success of any organization: including alignment, execution, and connection, just to name a few.

With facing a year of uncertainty during a pandemic, many of our employees shifted to remote work. With employee-owners facing new adversity in their home lives as well as our company’s professional setting, we knew we wanted to do what we could to support our employee-owners. Our incredible team stepped up to work as a community and support each other through difficulty. We invested in continued personal and professional growth as a tight-knit group by pivoting to zoom happy hours, virtual holiday parties, team check-in’s and individual phone calls.

What does this honor mean to Motz?

We took this opportunity to interview our Founder and CEO, Joe Motz, to hear first-hand how this year was different. Here’s what he had to say:

Q: What does it mean to receive a top place to work award three consecutive years in a row, and especially amidst a year of difficult change and a 100 year-pandemic?

A: We are incredibly grateful and humbled to receive this honor by our employees. The pandemic is a significant worldwide event that has put many people in unfortunate situations, and we recognized the severity of the issue. However, in many ways, it offered our company the opportunity to step up and show what it means to have each other’s back. Through all of the unknowns, we showed our ability to pivot and reaffirm our trust and belief in one another. We knew through the pandemic we wanted to continue to respond to our employee-owners needs, whether their power went out at home and they needed a generator, or we could help by just opening a discussion about how we’re all doing with everything going on in the world.

Q: What do you see as the main driving factor within the company culture that makes employees value their employment with Motz?

A: Trust and strong relationships. Our organization operates on mutual and genuine trust, allowing us to accomplish our goals and move forward together at a quick pace. When you have trust, you can respect and acknowledge each other’s abilities. Not only do we trust, but we care and our employee-owners can feel this. Our team is built on strong friendships creating a sense of community where we look out for each other. This helped us to double down on communication throughout the pandemic.

Q: Top workplaces are usually considered based on communication, leadership, innovation, and strong values. How would you say TMC uses these company elements together to make a top workplace for its employees?

A: At Motz, we believe in coaching employees and growing from within. In leadership, if we do our jobs, we will coach our employees up. For our culture to thrive, we provide transparent communication leading from the heart. This allows us to provide an enterprise structure that is efficient, organized, and clear on expectations. At the end of the day, people remember how they felt, not company policy. We believe when you put self-starters, trust, autonomy, and leading by the heart together, you create an environment where there is flexibility to make decisions but also mistakes without the fear of failing. We continue to keep learning and moving forward together.
